Story

Veins of Resistance opens windows to learning through experience and empathy. What happens when students in over 200 high schools vote to occupy their own schools and use them as protest camps for the whole semester to demand free quality education? How does it feel to take back your families' Indigenous territory from a multinational company? What does it mean to be a working mother of four while serving as the volunteer treasurer for a committee made up of 104 families in an urban land occupation, seeking to help each other save the money to move from their hand-built squats into public housing together?

Themes

Our film weaves narratives of occupations for education, land, and housing, through the weft of Chile’s inter-generational traumas of a CIA-backed coup, Indigenous genocides, and forced migrations. Bringing into focus activists making change with diverse practices, from traditional ceremonies and urban gardens to labor strikes and late-night barricades, we aim to evoke intercultural learning experiences.

Vision

With the guiding vision of ‘going to where the silence is’ and opening a space for people whose voices aren’t being heard, we deliver a palpable documentary cast on a journalistic hook. Throughout our bold five-act structure, we gain access to three Chilean social movements that are tactically occupying buildings and land. Eye-level cinematic profiles are contrasted to awaken emotional as well as analytical explorations into what brings change.

Purpose

Our purpose begins with shining a light on the decisive moments of unseen truth-tellers so that others can act too. Wind Born Film’s unique creative process was forged with the hope that our ways of getting stories told could inspire more realists to try for and achieve the impossible. Created by independent news photographers, editors, musicians, a composer and a graphic designer - collectively collaborating over four years - our film’s purpose is to broadcast unheard voices of people of conscience. Though financial resources were limited to a few thousand dollars, our blood, sweat, and tears proved sufficient to give birth to a film that grew to completion through each person’s integrity, empathy and insight.
